Coral Smokey Eyes Tutorial

Smokey eyes is a trend which never goes out of fashion, so here’s an easy way to do any smokey eyes. We demonstrate how to do coral smokey eye make up and you may use this method for any color.

Products needed:
  • Black eye shadow (optional)
  • Black kohl
  • Coral eye shadow
  • Mascara
  • Highlighting shade
  • False lashes(optional)

 Step 1
Conceal and prime your eyes before you start. Concealing the under eye area will help to hide the dark circles and other flaws. While priming will help make the shadow stay longer. For oily eyelids primer is a must.

 Step 2

Apply the black kohl pencil all over the lids upto the crease. Do not fear if it is uneven, we will smoothen it out. You may also use a black eye shadow on top of it to  make it stay longer.

Step 3
Now take the coral eye shadow and apply it in the inner corner of the eyes. Apply it with a pencil brush for more precision.

Step 4
Now blend the coral and the black together using wiping motions. Also blend in the crease and if you want create an edge with the black eye shadow. If you have un-even edges, then take a q-tip and a piece of paper. Now hold the paper over the eyes in the desired angle and use the q-tip (dipped in makeup remover) to clean the edge. This trick will create a sharp edge. If you want to soften the look, use a blending brush to blend the edges and leave no harsh lines.
Take the black shadow on a crease brush and apply it to the crease.

Step 5
Take a bit of the highlighter shade on a fluffy blending brush and apply the highlighter shade again under the brow bone. You can skip this part if you feel you have enough shade already.

Step 6
Line the waterline with black kohl and curl your lashes for a dramatic look. You can also add false lashes if you please. Add the false lashes and curl them together with the real lashes for a more defined look. Also clean the fall outs to finish the look. Using the same brush that you used to apply the coral shadow, swipe it under the lower lashline for just a hint of coral under the eyes.

Spring 2013: The Do's and Don'ts of Makeup

Despite the snow and cold we have experienced in the last few weeks, spring is rapidly approaching and will be upon us before we know it. So with the approach of the season of rejuvenation and bloom, we should get to know the trends that are set to be massive in the makeup world.

Let’s work our way through the 2013 looks…

Skin

The skin is glowing this year. All catwalks were shining with life as all models looked fresh and vibrant. The best way to achieve such a look is by using light-reflecting primers, foundations or powders which will catch the light and shine it off your skin. This makeup also makes you look younger and rejuvenated but be careful not to look oily rather than glowing. The best course of action would be to use a light-reflective primer and then cover it with a liquid foundation to dull the effect a bit.

Lipsticks

Lipsticks are in the red spectrum this spring, with an accent on scarlet and crimson shades. Red is the all-time classic in the lipstick department and it doesn’t ever seem to go out of fashion, but it has been on the catwalks again for the approaching season. Many models were seen with a touch of orange too, making red a bit less ‘femme fatale’. If nothing of the red gamma suits you, you can wear anything you like – just be careful to keep everything in matte rather than covered with shiny lip gloss. After all, glowing skin is enough…

Eyeliners

Eyeliners are seen everywhere and are becoming more of a must with each passing season. Spring 2013 makes no exception as makeup artists really got stuck into experimenting on each model. Two looks emerged on top – the flicked up line and the tight but smudged outline of the entire eye. Both looks can be used for special occasions, but everyday makeup would benefit more from the smudged outline – it is a more elegant and classy day time look, so long as you keep the smudging to a minimum to avoid panda eyes.

Eye Shadows

The eye shadows are all in the green and blue gammas. And by all, you can read that any and all colours from those palettes can be used, depending on the desired look. Use their brightest versions for clubbing and their subtle versions for work; use matte for the everyday look and metallic for the night scene. Really, anything goes as long as it’s green or blue. Keep in mind that no models were seen wearing both shades at the same time – keep them separate.

Eyelashes

Eye lashes were also the object of experimentation on the catwalks – big, small, black, blue, pink, green, metallic… Most makeup artists focused on the lower lash and made it really stand out. Just keep in mind that mascara on the lower lash brings out dark circles so if you didn’t get your beauty sleep, don’t try for that look – neither you nor anyone around you will be pleased with the result.

Eyebrows

Last but not least – the brows. Everyone is carrying them heavy and with pride this year as most artists really put an accent on them. Don’t believe it if you wish, but ‘the bigger the better’ is spring 2013’s motto. Keep them nicely shaped, but put your eyebrow pencils at work because you really need them to stand out.

The Casual Look

Of course, the natural look is always on trend. Many models were seen without any makeup and if you can get away with it, it’s really the best choice… at least for the everyday, casual appearance.

If you are beginning to buy your makeup for the spring season, take into account these 2013 requirements and you will look like you just stepped off the cat walk.

Get The Look: Smokey Coral

This weekend I had the pleasure of working with my cousin and assisting her with the makeup for her pre-Quinceañera photo shoot. A Quinceañera is a big party celebrated by Latin/Hispanic families. We celebrate the transition from childhood to womanhood. Her Quinceañera is in the middle of next month, and there will be a big poster sized photo at the reception of her in her big coral Quinceañera dress, so my aunt had a photographer come by to take some pictures before the big event.

Below are the products I used to complete her look.

Face
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
  • Benefit hello flawless oxygen wow! brightening makeup in Champagne & Beige mixed together.
  • mark Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder in Pro Glow
  • mark Just Blushing Powder Blush in Afterglow

First Face Of The Day

I'm pretty new to blogging and I hope to include more FOTD posts here and there. FYI: I need to get my brows done so please pay them no mind lol.

First, I prepped my face with Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional. Then I applied Organic wear 100% Natural Origin Tinted Moisturizer in light to medium all over my face. I then used Urban Decay Naked on my eyes. I applied the shades: Virgin, Smog mixed with Darkhorse & Gunmetal. I applied one coat of Maybelline Great Lash Lots Of Lashes Mascara in Blackest Black. I swiped a bit of mark Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder to contour under my cheeks, forehead and nose. Then I swiped mark Just Blushing Powder Blush in After Glow (alternative to NARS Orgasm) on the apples on my cheeks. I also used mark Kabuki Brush to blend the blush and the bronzer together so there wouldn't be any harsh lines. I finished off the look with mark Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Whiney.
I wish I would've taken more pictures but I was in a rush to take the little ones to school.
Hopefully, there will be more FOTD posts to come.

September Faves

At the end of each month, I would love to try to showcase my fave items that I've been using constantly for that month. I would've done this post on Sunday but I had just arrived back home from a road trip to Florida to visit my sister-in-law and met my first nephew. So here it goes:

Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector with SPF 15. Perfect for days when you don't want a lot of coverage. I'm big on wearing SPF. It has to be in my moisturizer or foundation.

Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Natural. This blush has a mini brush in the bottom which is perfect to have in your purse. Claims to keep you in a good mood.

mark. LipClick SPF 15 Color Shine Lipstick in Pinkie. I LOVE this color. Great for all skin tones. You can purchase this through my eboutique

mark Lash Act Build and Define Mascara is amazing! Customize your lashes with this innovative brush that delivers two different looks with a quick twist! Brush on the non-smudging, non-clumping formula to build full, flirty lashes or turn the top of the wand for a brush that literally lengthens before your eyes. You can purchase this from my eboutique.

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Cherry Me is awesome for days when you want some color without the boldness of a lipstick. Perfect for a sheer red lip.

Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24 HR Cream Gel Shadow in Bad to the Bronze is great for everyday wear. It's a color that goes with everything which is why I've been wearing it almost everyday! :)

I got the smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer when I purchased the Try It Kit from Sephora. I love how it feels buttery soft on my skin. I love to mix this with my Garnier BB Cream for an even more flawless coverage.

jane Sparkle Gloss Swatch

In my September MyGlam bag I received a full size lipgloss from jane Cosmetics in Sparkle Pink.

Its a hot fuchsia pink gloss with multi-colored shimmer.

Here are my lips before:

And here they are after with flash.

 And without flash.

I did some swatches on my arm and of course it looks better in person.
The left swatch is just one swipe. The second swatch is three swipes.

Here's the back.

This lip gloss is part of a set of lip glosses made for the Friends of Jane lip collection, which 100% of the net proceeds support a charitable organization geared towards empowering women. The scent was pleasant and smelled like a subtle hint of vanilla. The texture is creamy and slightly sticky. Not as sticky as some other glosses I've tried. The formula is long lasting. I tried to wash the swatches on my arm and they would not come off after washing it twice with soap. Try 3x. I can see why this is one of their best sellers. I'm definitely purchasing the Friends of Jane lip collection.
