2013’s Most Wearable Trends

When it comes to the latest fashion trends, sometimes the latest trends will leave you quizzically asking yourself ‘What on earth?’ It is true that some styles do not suit everyone from skyscraper heels to bright neon tops. Many women whilst relaxing and flicking through their latest fashion and beauty magazine will also be struck by the price tags that accompany these glossy garments, which may leave them feeling like these looks are unobtainable and out of reach to the majority of fashion lovers. However, fear not, as there have been an abundance of wearable and affordable trends at this year’s spring and autumn catwalks in Milan, Paris, London and New York. Here are some that you can comfortably try at home.

Wearable fabrics. Dolce and Gabbana strayed from the sparkly and digital prints seen by a lot of designers, to more traditional and classic fabrics in Milan. Fashionistas saw models gliding down the catwalks in tweed, checks and plaid for a more demure and everyday autumn collection. These popular fabrics can be found easily in charity shops as well as high street outlets. For a truly personal, vintage touch, ask around the family to see if there is a tweed jacket gathering dust that needs a revival.

Bermuda shorts. For style that is closer to the start of the year, a big spring trend was a tweak on the classical but sometimes comical Bermuda short. Instead of red and blue tikki patterns, think elegant delicate floral fabrics as seen at Peter Som or jean cut-offs at DKNY. This eclectic mix of fabrics means that any old pair or scuffed trousers in the back of the wardrobe can be given a simple revival with a pair of scissors and a bit of sewing. Team the shorts with a tailored jacket and heals for a comfortable yet chic look.

Bohemian. It seems that the bohemian trend never really disappears altogether as this versatile style incorporates so much into a look from bright patterns and beading to feathers and fringing, which is also a big trend for spring. This style is a great excuse to keep your makeup and hair natural and giving your feet a break from hours of heel tottering. Try mixing up the look as seen at Altuzarra by mixing contrasting colours and patterns together, teamed with a pair of modern high boots.

Sporty dresses. This casual dress alternative is great in the warmer months for a flirty and breezy look. They also look great either with flats, heels or wedges, depending on what comfort level you wish to opt for. We love Rag and Bone’s fitted sport dresses with a belted waist and detailing around the collar. Team the dress with bright accessories such as a coloured shopper bag as seen at Stella McCartney.

Stripes. Stripes dominated the spring catwalks. Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger amongst many others opted for an all out stripe spectacular in their new collections. However, if you don’t wish to dress in this trend from head to toe, select a striped shirt or blouse underneath a plain suit for a more subtle look. Alternatively, vertical striped trousers are great from elongating your legs and go well with a plain top half and colourful accessories.

Special thanks for Terisa Able for this great fashion guest post.

7 Celebrity Looks For Less: Grammy's 2013

If you watched the Grammy's last night like I did, I'm sure that you heard the dreaded phrase all night, ''Did you get the memo?" UGH! CBS sent out a memo to all the celebrities asking them to keep their goods inside of their clothes. They did not want to see any crack, nipples, side-boob, under-boob, thongs and puffy skin. WTF is puffy skin?! Well, due to this 'dress code' a lot of the fashion worn by the usual femme fatales were blah. Here are my top 7 celebrity looks that you can rock for less!

Best & Worst On The Red Carpet: Golden Globes Awards 2013

Last night, the 70th Golden Globes Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Hosted by the hilarious comedic duo, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The Golden Globes honors the best in film and television. I love watching the red carpet and seeing how glamorous the celebrities look for these big events. Of course, there were a few that need to fire their stylist asap.

Best

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
J.Lo is best known for having the most 'OMG' factor at the award shows. Remember her Versace gown in 2002? I'm just in love with this nude lace gown. It looks great on her body.

Not the best and not the worst either...

Rachel Weisz in Louis Vuitton
I am stuck on this dress. I've seen worst. I like that it's pretty simple, being all black. The bow is not too huge so it looks great on her. I do like the polka dot detailing, it reminds of Stella McCartney's polka dot LBD.

Best

Jennifer Lawerence in Dior
Jennifer looks amazing in just about anything that she wears. She has such a great physique. I love this coral dress and the golden belt. She kept her accessories and makeup to a minimum.

Worst

Halle Berry in Verace.
Sorry, Halle, but this dress is hideous! You look like you have a uni-boob. And the dress looks like it has two different patterns but it's just one. And there's just too much going on. Fire your stylist now!

 Best

Anne Hathaway in Chanel
I love this white beaded gown. I believe Anne can pull of any look. I just wish yhat the peplum top was a little more open and not so tight.

 Worst

Marion Cotillard in Dior
I usually love Marion's red carpet gowns but where is the rest of her belt? And the left side of her dress looks like she's wearing an orange garbage bag. If her whole waist was cinched, I would  have given her 'Best' dressed.

Worst

Lucy Liu in ? (LOL)
I love the fishnet braid but the dress is horrendous. This fabric looks like my grandma's old couch. She would've fared better if it was in a solid color. Plus, it looks like it either has pockets (eww) or she just doesn't know what to do with her hands?

 Best

Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier
Breakup does the body good for Taylor! She looks AMAZING in this dress. I think Taylor is starting to grow up because her red carpet style has gotten better and more sophisticated. I really wish that the gown has a different neckline.

Best

Sophia Vergara
Another starlet, who looks gorgeous in just about anything that she wears. All black with beads and sequins. Perfectly sexy! Too bad, she probably had the worst accessory: her dickwad fiance.

Best

Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta
She looks amazing from head to toe. I love how she matched her lips to her clutch. Her peach gown is beautful.

 Worst

Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein
This look would have been a 'Best' if it weren't for the top part of her dress, which makes it look like she has saggy grandma boobs.

 Best

 Heidi Klum in Alexandre Vauthier
Heidi looked stunning last night. OMG I just looove this gown. This supermodel can do no wrong in any outfit that she wears. Her whole look is impeccable. I adore her Christian Louboutin heels. I want them in every color!

Best

Naomi Watts in Zac Posen
Naomi looked extravagant in this ox-blood gown. I love the tail and the peek-a-boo back.

Best

Eva Longoria in Emilio Pucci
Eva looked amazing in this dress. I love the lace, plunging neckline and the sheer bottom of the gown. Her shoes were hot too. I'm just not sure what she was trying to accomplish with the way she was walking.

Worst

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
I'm a huge fan of McQueen but I don't like the Atari Space Envaders on the gown. I think this would have looked much better if it were left plain but with a v-neck or sweetheart neckline.

Best

Tina Fey in L'Wren Scott
Black and white is classic. Tina looks great. I love the lace and sequins on this gown and she kept her accessories to a minimum

Best

Amy Adams in Marchesa
This blush mermaid gown was a great pick for Amy. She looks so great.

Worst

Sienna Miller in Erderm
Everything about this dress is horrible. The cropped top, the neckline and the flower appliques.

Best

Kerry Washington in Miu Miu
Nude from head to toe, Kerry looks like she might be wearing 2 dresses in one. I love the pluning neckline, the strategic rhinestones, the sheer fabric, and the solid back of her dress.

Best

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
I LOVE Michael Kors, Im a big fan. This gold lace cut-out gown looks amazing on Emily. I love her accessories and her choice of hair style.

 Best

Nicole Richi in Naeem Khan
I love Nicole, she is such a fashion icon. Although she is covered up, the detailing of her gown makes up for the non-exposed skin.

Worst

Katherine McPhee in Theyskens Theory
Too much skin. I was afraid her boob was gonna pop out. She could've done without that waist high slit. Those shoes give the illusion that you can probably break a leg in them.

Best

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford
Business in the front, party in the back! ;)
I love how Julianne's look in the front is tasteful with a little bit of naughty in the back.

Worst

Guiliana Rancic
Her gown looks likse its wearing and chocking her. She would have looked much better without the chocker collar. And she's the host of Fashion Police? Pfff.

Worst

Lena Dunham in Zac Posen
There's just too many pleats in this gown and Lena just looks big it it.

Best

Claire Danes in Atelier Versace
Claire looks amazing in this coral gown and she just had a baby 31 days ago!!! I can't believe it. She looks great.

Best

Helen Mirren
Always on the best dresses list, style icon, Helen looked absolutely stunning in this LBD.
She looks amazing for 67. I hope I look this good when I reach her age.

Best

Zoey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta
I adore Zoey. She has such great style. I love this simple big coral gown with her simple pearl neclace. Gorg!

Best

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen
I consider Kate a style icon. She looks so sexy and sofisticated in this gold and black gown.

Best

Megan Fox in Dolce & Gabbana
Megan just looks amazing in anything she wears. I just wish her lace gown wasn't such a close color to her skin color.

Best

Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney
I repeat: Breakup does the body good!!!
Amy looked amaze-balls in this Stella McCartney number. Just enough sexiness mixed in with menswear.

Worst

Julianne Hough in Monique Lhuillier
I love the top part of Julianne's gown with thechunky flecks of gold. I really dislike the poofy bottom part of the gown, I wish it were tighter with a long tail. And she could've let her hair down.

Best

Lea Michelle in Elie Saab
Lea looks so gorg in this lovely beaded gown. I love how she chose to show just enough skin to showcase her sexyness without overdoing it.

Best

Jennifer Garner in Vivienne Westwood
Wearing red on the red carpet, Jennifer oozes sex appeal in this stunning gown.

Worst

Kristen Wiig in Michael Kors
I don't know what the hell Michael was thinking when he decided to have a cutout right under the boobs. I think this dress would look much better if there wasn't a cutout and maybe a belt could be added?

Worst

Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier
The high neckline and puffy shoulders: big no-no.

Worst

Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham
She's pregnant so I'm not going to say anything ;)

Best

Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy
Amanda looks beautyful in this lacey gown. The peekaboo cutouts gives just a touch of sass.

Best

Salma Hayek in Gucci
The epitome of the term sex symbol, Salma looked AMAZING!!! Enough said.

Best

Julianne Margulies in Pucci
Julianne looked so pretty in this gorgeous black beaded gown. The ponytail altough simple, gave her look the perfect touch.

Worst

Morena Baccarin
One word: Horrendous.

 Worst

Emily Mortimer
Looking mortified.

Best

Hayden Panettiere in Roberto Cavalli
Hayden looked amazing in this strapless mermaid gown.

Best

 Adele in Burberry
Adele always looks classy and sophisticated. I just wish that she would wear something other than her signature LBD.

If I had to pick one celeb as the top best dressed, I would go with
SALMA HAYEK

Who are your top best dressed picks?
